DANIA – South Florida is about to get a whole lot funnier.

This week marks the long-anticipated opening of the latest room in Improv franchise – and the Dania Improv is ready to rock.

Few names are bigger in the comedy industry than Wayans, and the Dania Improv is bringing one of the brothers to Broward County for opening weekend.

Marlon Wayans is an actor, producer, comedian, writer and film director. At the box office his films have grossed more than $736 million domestically and $1 billion in globally. As a stand-up comedian, he sells out nationwide.

Wayans first-ever stand-up comedy special “Woke-ish” premiered on Netflix in 2018 to immense critical acclaim.

Thursday’ opening will give the Improv three properties within 75 miles, with the one in Dania joining older sisters in West Palm Beach and Miami.

The Thursday grand opening show begins at 8 p.m. Tickets – $40 for general admission, $50 VIP – still remain.

Wayans will perform two shows apiece on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, but that Thursday show is the Pick of the Week.

An opening night performance during the grand opening of what should quickly become one of South Florida’s hottest comedy venues? That’s too good to pass up.

Applause Planner – Plan On It

Speak Easy Chronicles – Wednesday, Aug. 18, Gatsby’s
Phil Isme headlines this Fort Lauderdale stand-up comedy show. Bob Kaufman and Mike Cintron will be the feature comics, with Nileja serving as host. There’s no cover charge for the 8 p.m. show, but there is a one item minimum. A full dinner menu and full bar are available. It’s a great way to spend a Wednesday in Fort Lauderdale.

Blue Jean Blues Comedy Show – Thursday, Aug. 19, Blue Jean Blues
Marlon Wayans and the grand opening of the Dania Improv will deservedly get almost all the South Florida comedy buzz on Thursday, but that’s not the only show in Broward. Chris Robinson, Dan Long, Minda, Alex Morrison, Daniel Lewis, Jeff Dolezal, Willis Jean and Pauly McPaulerson are scheduled to perform at Blue Jean Blues in Fort Lauderdale. No Wayans brothers, but still a solid lineup.

Maz Jobrani – Thursday, Aug. 19, Palm Beach Improv
The Palm Beach Improv isn’t taking the night off simply because its sister restaurant is opening. Comedian Maz Jobrani is also an actor and host of his own podcast on the All Things Comedy Network. His new standup comedy special, Pandemic Warrior, is now available for streaming on PeacockTV. As an actor, he was most recently seen playing the loveable “Fawz” on the CBS comedy Superior Donuts. Tickets are $25.

Caffeinated Comedy – Friday, Aug. 20, Carmela Coffee Company
Looking to jump start the weekend? How about combining comedy and coffee. Lalo Rodriguez is bringing that combo to Delray Beach on Friday night. Jackie Sanchez, Randy Vega, Matt Ross, and Stephanie Wood are scheduled to perform. That’s a caffeinated crew.
