DELRAY BEACH – South Florida needs to prepare itself for a western invasion.

Four Ft. Myers-based comics are heading to Fort Lauderdale this week, performing on the show that’s been selected as the Applause Planner Pick of the Week.

“There’s a lot of good comics coming out of southwest Florida,” said Nathan Wallace, the most recognizable name of the Fort Myers Four.

Devin Papayiannis, Jason Damm and Jojo Casillas join Wallace in making the trip across Alligator Alley for Thursday’s showcase at Blue Jean Blues in Fort Lauderdale.

In addition, several of South Florida’s best local comics are part of the showcase, including Jenn Hellman, Kolin Bohannon and Chris Shepherd. Nik Macik produces and hosts the event.

Wallace spent the weekend in South Carolina, featuring for Andy Forrester. The last time he performed in South Florida, Wallace featured for Brian Regan at the Palm Beach Improv.

“I held my own,” Wallace recalls from that night. “I got laughs.”

Wallace also featured for Flip Schultz on one of the Sadman Comedy Productions cul-de-sac shows. South Florida stand-up comedy fans who have yet to see Wallace perform should take advantage of this opportunity to get a taste of what he brings to the stage.

APPLAUSE PLANNER – Plan on It

Flip Schultz – Tuesday, April 13, 2021, Turtle Tavern
Schultz has a busy week. He starts it Tuesday at Delray’s Turtle Tavern, headlining a bill that features a ton of local comics, including Nadeem Awad, David Sadman, Brett Morris, Dan Long and Minda. Schultz is one of the best, and Turtle Tavern audiences have been somewhat surprisingly receptive to the Sadman Comedy Productions shows. Should be a good time.

Monique Marvez, Thursday, April 15, 2021, Biergarten
Marvez has been in show business for more than two decades and boasts three Showtime specials. Awad and Dougie Almeida are also slated to perform. Biergarten shows also tend to pack some special guest surprises – from belly dancers to national comics. What will this night hold?

Down and Dirty, Thursday, April 15, 2021, Palm Beach Improv
Plenty of choices for Thursday night comedy. Dan Long and Minda present their Down and Dirty show. As the name might suggest, this show isn’t intended for youngsters. As such, it doesn’t start until 10:30 p.m. Esther Ku headlines, with Vince Taylor featuring. Tickets are $10.

Flip Schultz – Friday, April 16, 2021, Pompano Beach Brewing
Can’t catch Schultz on Tuesday? Here’s another chance. He’ll have a strong supporting cast for this MurphChuck show that includes Blake Woodrow, Chris Roe and Stephanie Wood. The Pompano Beach Brewing Company offers an outstanding outdoor venue, and the show is free. Not a bad way to start a weekend.

Jon Lovitz – Friday-Sunday, April 16-18, Palm Beach Improv
A veteran performer who starred on “Saturday Night Live!” and “News Radio”, Lovitz comes to the Palm Beach Improv for four shows (two on Saturday). Hard to go wrong seeing someone like Lovitz in a club as nice as the PB Improv.

Frank Del Pizzo – Sunday, April 18, Monroe’s Red Light
Bobby Mac’s Sunday night shows at Monroe’s Red Light continue to grow in popularity. Del Pizzo recently featured for Steve Trevino at the Palm Beach Improv. John Loveless and Danny Fallon are also scheduled to perform.
