DELRAY BEACH – No matter how often people mispronounce his last name – and it happens all the time – the error still doesn’t sit well with Dan Caso.

“I’m not a Mexican cheese dip,” Caso said, laughing.

Every year on the first day of school Caso (probounced KAH-so) knew teaches would pronounce his name with the long “A” sound.

The same still happens when he’s introduced at open mics and the first time he plays comedy venues.

It even happened when he was called to the stage during a recent recording of the “Kill Tony” podcast in Miami.

“It sucks that it happened when I was on Kill Tony, but of course it did,” Caso said.

Perhaps because he’s heard it so often, Caso didn’t dwell on the mispronunciation.

He took advantage of the opportunity to be featured on one of the top comedy podcasts and dove right into his act.

“Getting picked, I was like, ‘Oh sh*t, this is really fucking happening,’” Caso said. “Once it was really happening and it was going well, I was like, ‘Oh sh*t, this is better than I thought it would be.’”

Per the format Caso only had one minute to make host Tony Hinchcliffe laugh. To make that happen Caso turned to a couple proven jokes, including one about manic depression.

He also preformed the joke as a guest comic during Nadeem Awad’s video special at the Melody Ave. recording studios in West Palm Beach. The above video is from that performance.

“I’m surprised I still use it,” Caso said. “It’s one of the earliest jokes I wrote.”

The 29-year-old Caso moved to Florida from New Jersey seven years ago.

He’s heading back to Jersey for a major week of comedy.

He’s playing three shows over the course of the next seven days, opening for heavyweights Nimesh Patel, Derek Gaines and Ari Shaffir in the Garden State.
