Veteran Austin-area comics Roderick McDaniel and Shannon Mugrage thrilled by vibrant South Florida comedy scene.

DELRAY BEACH – Veteran comic Roderick McDaniel didn’t expect much from his mini-tour of Florida.

It took all of two days to change his mind about the South Florida comedy scene.

“Florida has been way more fun than I thought it was going to be, man,” McDaniel said.

McDaniel and touring partner Shannon Mugrage performed in Key West over the weekend before co-headlining, along with South Florida comic Kolin Bohannon, Monday’s monthly show at the Tin Roof on Delray Beach’s Atlantic Ave.

Making their first Palm Beach County performance, the duo delivered the kind of polished performances fans expect of veteran comics. McDaniel and Mugrage are leaving Florida impressed.

“It just seems like a cool place to hang out,” Mugrage said.

A comic for nearly two decades, McDaniel is based in Austin, Texas. Until recently that’s where Mugrage lived, too.

Now Mugrage is living in Colorado, but the duo still tours together, adding Bohannon to form a three-headed co-headlining monster.

Bohannon and Tin Roof show producer/host Nik Macik helped introduce the duo to South Florida.

“We’re just trying to get our feet into the Florida comedy scene,” McDaniel said. “It felt like a good introduction to everybody. We met a lot of people.”

McDaniel is using the current tour to support his second album, titled “Mind Ya Business,” which has growing support of Spotify.

The album dropped in April, and is gaining footing in some unexpected places.

“The thing that’s blowing me away is watching where it’s starting to get picked up,” McDaniel said. “It’s on a streaming service from India now.”

Following Monday’s show McDaniel and Mugrage left Florida, headed for New Orleans.

Along with Bohannon, the trio is in the process of booking a midwestern tour and are discussing the potential of taking their tour international – potentially to Australia – within the next year.

McDaniel and Mugrage are also interested in a return trip to the Sunshine State.

“I want to come back and do more,” McDaniel said.
