DELRAY BEACH – Clint Stevens had been considering hosting a comedy night ever since he purchased the Delray Hideaway in 2016.

On Monday at 8 p.m. the Hideaway’s spotlights will finally illuminate comics.

“We’re excited to see the turnout,” Stevens said. “A lot of out guests and regulars are exited about it as well. It’s something different.”

The Hideaway’s first show will introduce a veteran comic to the South Florida comedy scene.

For almost 20 years Jamie Blanchard made midwesterners laugh. A Minnesota native, Blanchard moved to Delray Beach in October.

Monday’s show will be his first time on stage since the COVID-19 pandemic’s onset in March. He admits to being a little concerned about rust.

“I’m just going to fire it out there,” Blanchard said of his approach to the night. “I’m just going to rely on my history and experience.”

Stevens will be charging a $5 cover at the door, which he says will all go to the comics.

And while the Hideaway is roomy, the plan is to limit the amount of patrons.

“We just want to make sure we’re practicing social distancing, so we have to cap it off at a number,” Stevens said. “I think we can get 50 to 60 people in there comfortably. I just don’t want to jam people in.”

Nadeem Awad is featuring, with Lalo Rodriguez and David Sadman also performing.

The Hideway’s kitchen will be open throughout the night and the bar has a full liquor license.

If the night goes well Stevens would like to offer a monthly comedy night.

“We’re excited to host a show and maybe get a whole new audience,” Stevens said.
