DELRAY BEACH – Inspired by the recent successes of comedy shows held at outdoor bars, Ryan Scott began a search for a venue where he could produce a similar experience.
As so often happened in recent months, that search led him to Delray Beach.
On Saturday Hopportunities becomes the most recent Delray bar opens is doors to comedy.
“We can’t wait, they can’t wait,” Scott said.
The show at Hopportunities, located on southbound Federal Highway a touch north of Lake Ida Rd., follows in the same vein as similar setups at Bangin’ Banjo Brewery and The Butcher Shop Beer Garden and Grill.
While Hopportunities is expansive inside, the show will take place outside under tents, with seating for 50-70 people.
“The whole ambiance and vibe is what I was looking for,” Scott said.
Six comics are on the Hopportunities Live Comedy Showcase bill: Matt Ross, Charly Esturihlo, Drew Illa. Danny Fallon, John Loveless and Scott. Each comic will perform for 15 minutes.
The free show begins at 8 p.m., but Scott suggests arriving earlier to ensure a seat.
Hopporutunities is a unique beer tasting bar, which allows customers to choose from more than 40 craft beers, paying by the ounce. As expected, the craft beer selection includes plenty of IPAs and sour beers. Don’t go looking for a Bud or Coors Light. The most nationally recognized offering as of Friday afternoon was Shiner.
Patrons looking to purchase beer or wine are required to leave a credit or debit card at the register.
Scott wanted to ensure patrons have eating options, so a food truck will also be present.
“It doesn’t leave people scrambling to find something to eat,” Scott said.
If this show goes well, there are already plans for a second Scott-produced show at Hopportunities.
“I expect a present audience that’s there and is ripened for comedy,” Scott said.
