DELRAY BEACH – Applause Break is going old school for our pick of the week in this installment of Applause Planner.

Miami native Brian Regan is among the original South Florida comics, having been in the business for more than 40 years.

He’s constantly touring, and his shows always deliver laughs. On Sunday, Jan. 24, Regan will be playing two shows at the Palm Beach Improv. – the beginning at 5 p.m., the second at 7 p.m.

Regan’s enjoyed the kind of stand-up comedy career that most young South Florida comics would love to emulate.

Vanity Fair tabbed Regan “The funniest stand-up alive,” and Entertainment Weekly called him, “Your favorite comedian’s favorite comedian.”

Regan currently stars in his own Netflix series, Stand Up And Away! With Brian Regan, which premiered in December of 2018. Regan and Jerry Seinfeld executive produce the four-episode original half- hour series that combines sketch comedy and stand-up.

Boasting seven hour-long comedy specials available either on Netflix, DVD or CD, Regan is a true South Florida comedy success. His Sunday show at the PB Improv will show why he’s so highly regarded.

Applause Planner – Plan On It

Wednesday, Jan. 21 – Comedy Night, Blue Jean Blues
Those in the Fort Lauderdale area – or those who don’t mind a quick drive – who want to see a whole bunch of local comics at once can head to Blue Jean Blues for its weekly comedy night. Hosted by Nik Macik and headlined by Dougie Almeida, as many as 10 comics may take the stage.

Saturday, Jan. 23 – Comedy Show @ The Box 2.0
Flip Schultz, who is back living in Florida, will headline a show that’s assembled by Mike Cintron. This will be an intimate show held in the room next to the Boca Black Box. Sure you could walk next door and see one of the two Chris Porter shows, or even head north to see Anthony Rodia (Lantana Black Box) or Jeremy Piven (PB Improv), but Applause Break prefers to highlight the local performers.

Sunday, Jan. 24 – Skippy Greene, Monroe’s Red Light
Skippy Greene is a character played by Flip Schultz, and he’s a favorite here at Applause Break. Green is a washed-up comic from the Catskills who punctuates lurid tales with the names of cartoon characters. Trust us, it works. Ambitious comedy fans can see Regan’s show, then head to Monroe’s Red Light for a night cap.
