DELRAY BEACH – Not too long ago, Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” deserved inclusion on any list of television’s best shows.

Back when Jon Stewart hosted the nightly broadcast, it offered a timely comedic take on news of the day that, while skewing left politically, did an excellent job of skewering those in power on all sides of the political spectrum. It essentially propelled the careers of Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert and Samantha Bee into national prominence.

Eight years ago Trevor Noah assumed the hosting role after Stewart stepped aside. The show’s entertainment value – not to mention its ratings – suffered.

In November Noah hosted his last Daily Show. Much like what happened with “Jeopardy” following the death of Alex Trebek, producers have decided to turn to a series of guest hosts before naming a permanent replacement for Noah – and it appears as though central casting is looking for a woman to take over the role.

Leslie Jones had previously been announced as the first guest host, jumping behind the desk from Jan. 17-19. Now the schedule of hosts through mid-February has been announced.

Wanda Sykes will follow Jones from Jan. 23-26. D.L. Hughley, the lone male announced as being booked to specific dates, handles the show from Jan. 30-Feb. 2. Chelsea Handler and Sarah Silverman will handle the two weeks that follow.

Producers have other guest hosts in the works, but no specific dates have been announced. Some of the names – which include Marlon Wayans – are mentioned in the article below.

Let’s hope whoever the producers crown as the permanent host can return the show to its previous glory.

Also in Rundown, Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock have announced two shows together, but South Florida fans wishing to see those performances will have to travel. There’s a look into the successful comedy career of Josh Blue, who recently performed in South Florida, as well as some fun heading into the weekend: a look at the top movies staring stand-up comedians.

Cut to the beginning of 2023, it’s been announced who will be kicking off this portion of the Comedy Central series’ run.
