FORT LAUDERDALE – Comedy returns to a familiar place with a new name this week.

Producer Nileja revives comedy shows at Blue Steel – formerly Gatsby’s – in Fort Lauderdale on Thursday, May 19, with a show dubbed “Thursday Thrills” packed with South Florida talent.

Flip Schultz spend much of the past couple months entertaining on cruise ships and tropical islands, but he is back in South Florida to headline this show. Schultz has appeared on “Last Comic Standing,” Comedy Central and HBO.

Local comics Chris Renois, Sarah Kenny, Charly Esturilho and Nik Macik are also scheduled to perform, with Nileja serving as host.

Before the changeover, Gatsby’s served as a cool and fairly unique venue for comedy. It’s speakeasy feel and old school drink menu made for an interesting night out.

Billing itself as a “Cocktail Parlour and Pizza Co,” Blue Steel still features fun and unique drinks, complemented by an upscale approach to pizza. Who doesn’t like pizza?

The $50 show ticket includes entry, choice of appetizer, choice of entree pizza, a drink (beer, wine, cocktail or non-alcoholic) and free parking. Showtime is 8:30 p.m.

The Applause Planner is curious to see how well the new venue lends itself to comedy. With Nileja producing a strong lineup for the comedy re-opening, these shows figure to build on the success started at Gatsby’s.
