WEST PALM BEACH – When Nadeem Awad recorded his yet-to-be-released comedy special, he used the opportunity to help other local comics record some video of their own.

As a result, Steve Lamm now has a professionally produced video of his five-minute set. A portion of that video – recorded at Melody Ave. recording studio in West Palm Beach – appears above.

“I think it was a cool idea,” Lamm said. “I like the thought of that kind of gig – the small venue and being personal for our friends. I enjoyed myself.”

A couple dozen friends packed into Melody Ave. for the invitation-only show.

“It was intimate – and I’ll take intimate any day because very rarely do I get any intimacy,” Lamm joked.

As early as high school Lamm considered becoming a stand-up comic, but initially dropped the idea after his dad told him comics generally don’t make a good living.

“I thought about it but never did anything about it for 30 more years,” Lamm said.

Relatively new to the South Florida comedy scene, Lamm has only been performing for a little more than three years, first picking up the mic following his divorce – and with the encouragement of his life coach.

Shortly before that, Lamm taught himself how to play ukulele, which he incorporated into his act.

“The way I do my jokes – I’m a one-liner guy – it really fit perfectly into my routine,” Lamm said.

Ukulele strumming serves as transition between Lamm’s jokes. It also has become part of his identity.

When appearing in shows with multiple guests and features, Lamm’s performances tend to stand out – even if fans aren’t certain of his name.

“I didn’t give a sh*t if they knew my name, they just remember the ukulele guy,” Lamm said.
