WEST PALM BEACH – In a normal week, the Applause Planner seeks to identify South Florida comedy shows that offer some of the best local talent.

Not this week.

Two national acts dominate this week’s listings – with the biggest shows being headlined by Ron White.

Beginning on Wednesday, the comic known to fans as “Tater Salad” will perform seven times at the Palm Beach Improv. Six of those shows – Wednesday’s show, Thursday’s early show, and all four shows on Friday and Saturday – are already sold out. Tickets remain only for Thursday’s 9:30 p.m. performance.

A stand-up veteran, White grew to international fame when he joined Jeff Foxworthy, Bill Engvall and Larry the Cable Guy on the Blue Collar Comedy Tour. The story that begins with White being thrown out of a bar in New York City (above video) is one of this century’s best comedy bits.

And White isn’t the only big name comic performing in South Florida this week. Greg Hahn is back in town and will perform on Saturday at Fort Pierce’s Sunrise Theatre. On most weeks Hahn’s show would be the pick of the week.

Unfortunately for Hahn, this week he caught the Tater.

Applause Planner – Plan On It

Phil Isme – Monday, July 19, FIWE Caribbean Cuisine
In recent weeks the Applause Planner has noted the uptick in quality Monday night comedy shows. Here’s another example. Isme headlines a strong lineup at FIWE, located in West Palm Beach. Tony Dark, Carlos Miguel, Jay McCoard and Lukas Jason are also on the bill. With Matt Bellak currently on tour, the twice monthly Monday show at the Whistle Stop has been pushed back a week. That gives Monday night comedy fans a chance to check out a new venue. This free show, produced by Sean Mullins, begins at 8 p.m.

Sunshine State Comedy – Wednesday, July 21, The Dubliner
South Florida comedy fans searching for a show with a female touch should consider the Dubliner on Wednesday. Zarna Garg is visiting from New York and will headline the show. Esther Ku is also scheduled to perform. With guys like Drew Illa, Lalo Rodriguez, Zach Bugarin, and Jim Fredricks also scheduled to perform, there’s something for everyone. The free show beings at 8 p.m. And don’t forget the $5 whiskey specials.

Greg Hahn – Saturday, July 24, Sunrise Theatre
Mentioned this show above but it deserves a little more attention. Hahn is a high-energy performer who dazzles audiences, barely giving them time to breathe between laughs. Local comic Nadeem Awad has been added to the show as the feature. Casey Peruski produces strong shows along the Treasure Coast. He’ll also perform on this show, and may add an additional guest. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door. The show begins at 7 p.m.
