DELRAY BEACH – Tin Roof comedy has gone green.

The Tin Roof’s recent expansion allowed the Atlantic Ave. bar to open a separate room – dubbed the Green Room – in the space formerly occupied by Tryst.

That newly acquired space is now the home for the Tin Roof’s monthly comedy show.

“I just feel like it’s better suited for comedy,” said manager Anthony Terzo, who is also a comic. “It’s closer, a little more tight knit. The bar is not as far away. People are here for the show. It’s just overall a better kind of room for comedy.”

The Green Room offers a capacity of about 90 and is closed off from the rest of the bar, limiting external noise. While Tin Roof’s main stage is larger, comics in the Green Room don’t have to deal with the general bar noise and disinterested patrons that often accompanied Monday night shows – especially when the Motown tribute band played a happy hour show immediately preceding the comedy show.

The Green Room offers two full bars – only one was in use on Monday – and the full Tin Roof menu.

“The comics so far love it,” Terzo said. “We hope to keep it around.”

The room is long but not wide. The stage is set in the center of the room, between the two bars, and faces the shallow side of the bar. As a result, most patrons are seated either to the right or left of the comic. While the setup ensures anyone watching the show has a good view, it also can present a challenge when audience members seated at one of the tables in front of the stage vacate the area, as happened on Monday night.

“I had to keep going from that side to that side,” said Carl Rimi, Monday’s headliner. “I didn’t know what side of the room to play.”

Rimi easily overcame that issue, entertaining an attentive, receptive crowd of about 50 for more than 30 minutes.

Afterward Rimi complemented the new room, which has been the reaction from most comics who’ve performed there.

“I know (Rimi’s) going to do a good job if I hire him, and if I work with him I’ve got to bring my ‘A’ game,” Terzo said.

HIGH POINT
Rimi returned to the stage over the weekend after taking time away to focus on the movie iPosssessed, which he wrote, stars in, is co-directing and co-producing. It didn’t take Rimi long to get back into the flow. His appreciation for serial killers, and the bit that stems from it, had the crowd howling.

BE OUR GUEST
Rimi is ultra-fit, but don’t look for him to climb Mount Everest any time soon. He explained why in a strong bit. …Robinson lives in Melbourne but it sounds like he could be performing more frequently in Palm Beach County, which would be a positive addition to the South Florida comedy scene. His internal conflicts stemming from being a black homeowner supplied one of many highlights in his set. …Awad wasn’t originally on the bill, but he did step-up for a quick set, performing a bit generated by his recent trip to the Rockies. His thoughts about how to ruin someone else’s marriage proposal has merits. Let’s see how it develops. …Bolling offered a humorous take on why he likes old people, but he should consider retiring the Bashar al-Assad joke. It did more than fell flat. It elicited anger, killing the room. …Esturilho’s budding COVID romance with a CVS worker entertained. …Macik booked a quality lineup and, as host, kept the show moving.

WORKING THE ROOM
Robinson had some fun with the two interracial married couples in the room, mining racial differences to the delight of the couples and the crowd in general.

COMICS’ TABLE
Rimi says the editing process for iPossessed is about 25 percent complete. Two scenes still need to be shot. He hopes to complete those scenes in July, and potentially could have the film’s first cut completed by the end of August. …Awad is bringing comedy back to Delray’s Wine House Social – formerly N2 Wine Bar – on July 6. …David Sadman of Sadman Comedy Productions attended the show and is creating a mini-tour of the New York City area where he grew up.

ONE LINER
“Terzo puts on a good show. I wish he would have (performed). He’s funny.” – Carl Rimi
