DELRAY BEACH – Zach McGovern is rapidly making a name for himself in South Florida.

The New Yorker finds himself spending an increasing amount of time in Delray, consistently receiving more stage time.

McGovern started with a few guest spots. Two weeks ago he was a feature comic for Jamie Blanchard at the initial Delray Hideaway show.

Tonight he takes another step. McGovern is the headliner at the Tin Roof on Atlantic Ave.

Mostly known for live music, the Tin Roof hosts a comedy show on the final Monday of every month – and it’s quickly become one of the top comedy shows in South Florida.

Last month’s show saw Bret Ernst make a guest appearance before bringing comedy legend Jimmy Shubert to the stage. Given the current pandemic situation, that December Tin Roof show was probably the best comedy show in the nation that day.

Monday’s bill doesn’t feature the same star power as last month’s, but McGovern drew plenty of laughs on that stage as a feature during previous months. Chicago-based touring comic Paul Farahvar – a regular at McCurdy’s in Sarasota – will be making his first Delray appearance, serving as the shows featured comic.

Danny Braff and Drew Illa are also performing, with Mike Cintron hosting. And with so many top comics now residing in South Florida waiting for the pandemic’s end, there’s no telling who might take the stage for a guest spot.

The free show begins at 8 p.m. and has quickly become a don’t-miss event.

Applause Planner – Plan On It

Scandalous Nights Variety Show – Jan. 29-31, Empire Stage
Cruise-ship comic Jeff Taveggia grew tired of waiting for those floating cities to return to sea so he decided to take action. Out of work since March, Taveggia and co-producer Marguerite Smith created Scandalous Nights in Fort Lauderdale. Friday is the debut performance, which includes Taveggia’s comedy and juggling act, a drag show and a burlesque show. Future shows will provide stage time for more out-of-work cruise ship comics. One warning, though. This show is not intended for the easily offended. An age minimum of 18 is strongly suggested.

Bruce Bruce – Jan. 29-31, Palm Beach Improv
The former host of BET’s Comic View, Bruce’s comedic highlights date back to the early 1990s and include an appearance of HBO’s Def Comedy Jam, as well as multiple appearances on Showtime at the Apollo. He quickly grew in popularity to garner a specials on Comedy Central as well as several movie roles.
