DELRAY BEACH – What’s the worst that can happen when an edgy joke goes wrong?

For comedian Jocelyn Chia, it’s being disowned by her country.

Her jokes about at the lost Malaysian airliner from a couple years ago prompted Singapore’s High Commissioner to Malaysia to announce that Chia is no longer Singaporean.

Think about that the next time a joke falls flat. There are far worse outcomes.

Today’s Stand-Up Spotlight also includes Bert Kreischer discussing the evolution of his The Machine bit. There’s more to it than meets the eye. There’s also a story about Marlon Wayans terrible trip on United Airlines – which it doesn’t sound like he’ll be flying again any time soon – and news that Rob Schneider will be getting a stand-up special on Fox Nation.

Schneider’s special follows Roseanne Barr’s on the platform. If Fox Nation keeps this up, they might actually land a funny comedian.

STAND-UP SPOTLIGHT – June 13, 2023

Stand-up comedian no longer Singaporean, says High Commissioner

STAND-UP RUNDOWN:PETALING JAYA: Stand-up comedian Jocelyn Chia is no longer Singaporean, says the nation’s High Commissioner to Malaysia Vanu Gopala Menon.

In a statement issued on Thursday (June 8), Menon said that he is appalled by the “gratuitously offensive comments” made by Chia in her performance.

“The Singapore Government does not condone words or actions that cause harm or hurt to others and Chia, who is no longer Singaporean, does not in any way reflect our views,” said Menon.

Bert Kreischer Barely Survived to Tell This Story

STAND-UP RUNDOWN:Bert Kreischer has told the story so many times that he almost seems surprised that you want to hear it again. Almost.

It’s not like it’s the Greatest Story Ever Told — it’s just a strong contender for the greatest story Kreischer has ever told, which is saying something. As a stand-up comic who sells out arenas and organizes annual summer tours with his famous friends, has a handful of popular specials on Netflix and a podcast presence to die for, who’s known for ripping his shirt off to the sound of rock-star-level screaming every time he walks onstage, the 50-year-old comedian’s business is to tell hilariously epic (and epically hilarious) yarns. And business, suffice it to say, is good.

Marlon Wayans felt ‘targeted’ before getting kicked off United Airlines flight

STAND-UP RUNDOWN:He’s so freakin’ pissed.

Comedian and “White Chicks” star Marlon Wayans took to Instagram Saturday, claiming he was “mistreated” and “targeted” Friday by a United Airlines flight attendant, which resulted in him being removed from a flight and cited by police for disturbing the peace.
