DELRAY BEACH – It’s Sebastian Maniscalco Day at Applause Break.

Maniscalco’s been in the news frequently because of his “About My Father” movie, co-starring Robert De Niro.

In a recent interview promoting the movie, Maniscalco said that, since most stand-up comedians write their own material, the current Hollywood writers’ strike isn’t affecting the stand-up world. This actually begs the question: Has anyone actually noticed that Hollywood writers are on strike?

There’s also a story about how Maniscalco’s film might revive a movie trend from decade’s past, and another explaining why he didn’t include stand-up material within the movie.

For those who aren’t fans about Maniscalco, there’s also news that Eugene Levy and Conan O’Brien are both getting their own travel series. Should make for an interesting trip.

The weekend’s upon us. Let’s keep it funny.

Sebastian Maniscalco Says ‘Stand-Up Comedy Is Thriving’ Amid Writers Strike

STAND-UP RUNDOWN:Sebastian Maniscalco is changing the Italian American stereotypes in movies with his new comedy About My Father.

The stand-up comic co-wrote and stars in the new family comedy, which is loosely based on his own life. Drawing on his own experiences as a second-generation Italian American, his onscreen father is played by Robert De Niro. He hopes About My Father shows that Italians are “much more” than the “mob” representation we usually see in movies.

About My Father Could Restart A Comedy Trend We Haven’t Seen Since The ’00s

STAND-UP RUNDOWN:About My Father starring Sebastian Maniscalco and Robert De Niro is a feel-good comedy about the importance of family that could restart a comedy trend we haven’t seen since the ’00s. In this autobiographical account loosely based on Maniscalco’s relationship with his immigrant father, the comedian plays a fictionalized version of himself as a hotel manager who gets invited to meet his girlfriend’s parents at their palatial New England estate. Unfortunately, he feels pressure to bring his father Salvo (De Niro), a Sicilian hairdresser who is known for his off-color sense of humor and blunt commentary.

About My Father Star Sebastian Maniscalco Explains Why He Didn’t Put Stand-Up in His New Film (Exclusive)

STAND-UP RUNDOWN:Sebastian Maniscalco is currently one of the most famous comedians in the world – so why didn’t actually feature himself doing any stand-up comedy in his new movie About My Father?

After all, About My Father is loosely based on Maniscalco’s life and the culture clash that happens when his immigrant Italian father meets his fiancee’s parents. The marketing for the movie is unabashed in calling Maniscalco “The hottest comic in America,” but the story of About My Father gives “Sebastian” the new occupational backstory of a successful hotel general manager, who lands the affections of an ultra-wealthy woman named Ellie (Leslie Bibb).
