DELRAY BEACH – Artificial Intelligence’s march to steal stand-up comedy jobs isn’t off to rollicking start.

The latest example is detailed by the Washington Post in a story about a recent comedy night during which comedians inserted a couple AI generated jokes into their sets. Chalk one up for the humans.

Applause Break has been monitoring the efforts to produce comedy via AI. So far, the computer isn’t making great strides.

Perhaps the best place source for AI comedy the Twitter account @WitScript. The handle is fed the first line. AI generates the punchline. The account is the creation of a former late night television writer. More than anything, it’s simple formulaic jokes may offer insight into why people don’t watch nearly as much late night television as they once did.
