DELRAY BEACH -Some issues within the comedy business hit a little closer to home.

In recent months the Stand-Up Spotlight highlighted multiple stories detailing comedian conflicts with cancel culture. Today’s lead story isn’t as cerebral. It’s financial.

The article argues that the current economic state makes launching a comedy career harder than ever. And the issue isn’t confined to the South Florida comedy scene. This article was originally published in Europe.

Further down the Stand-Up Spotlight, Jennifer Aniston notes that iconic 1990s TV show “Friends,” in which she starred, is now frequently criticized by young adults for jokes now deemed insensitive. There’s also sad news of the passing of famed political satirist Mark Russell. And with the weekend nearly here, we’ll end with two lists of the best comedies currently available on Amazon Prime.

Fire up the funny, folks.

And with inflation unexpectedly rising to a 45-year high of 10.4% in February, the outlook is even bleaker.

Comedy suffering because ‘you have to be careful’ now, says Aniston

Jennifer Aniston said she wishes we could laugh more at ourselves, rather than having to police every word in comedies.
