BOCA RATON – Comedian Kathy Buckley is deaf, attempted suicide five times, has been run over by a Jeep, and been diagnosed with cancer.
Not only can she laugh about it, she’s made others laugh as well.
Buckley serves as a beacon to what a human can overcome, along with a monument to how good comedians can convert almost any experience into a humorous spin.
Applause Break turns its Stand-Up Spotlight on Goalcast’s feature about Buckley. The story includes video of her performing. It’s worth a look.

Robert Kelly is one of my favorite all-time stand-up comedians, a graduate in the rowdy class of the early 2000s that saw him sharing stages with the likes of Louis CK (whose Louie series Kelly co-starred on as CK’s brother), Dane Cook (they travelled together as part of 2005’s Tourgasm live showcase), Bill Burr, Jim Norton, Kevin Hart and the late, great Patrice O’Neal. Add to that, Kelly’s resume as an actor with a big deal FX stint on Dennis Leary’s Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll, and Kelly could teach a master class on what it means to be part of every aspect of the comedy game.
Monica Palacios stands up and out
“Just comadres? I don’t think so,” is one of the many brilliant lines Monica Palacios has delivered onstage, commenting on Mexican women singing passionate mariachi songs together.
Named one of the most influential Latinx performers ever, Monica Palacios was born to be a comedian. She was one of the first out Chicana lesbian comics to hit the stage in San Francisco in 1982. The unique period was documented in the queer film “Stand Up, Stand Out: The Making of a Comedy Movement.”
