DELRAY BEACH – Tom Brady isn’t laughing at AI Tom Brady.

According to TMZ, the real Brady is threatening to sue the creators of the fake one.

The Tom Brady stand-up comedian saga began about a month ago with a report that the seven-time Super Bowl champion QB is considering a stand-up comedy career.

At that point two enterprising comedians used artificial intelligence to simulate what a Tom Brady comedy performance might look like. That video took the internet by storm – for a day or two.

Brady saw it, threatened a lawsuit, and now the creators are pulling it from the internet.

With the rapid growth of AI, this probably won’t be the last time a celebrity becomes a stand-up comedian against their will.

Today’s week-ending Stand-Up Spotlight also includes a feature about Sam Jay, a profile of the comedy scene in Bahrain and a review of the new Louis CK special, which mentions Applause Break favorite Greg Hahn.

Give them a read and get a jump start on a funny weekend.

Tom Brady Threatens Lawsuit Over AI Special … Comedians Take Vid Down

STAND-UP RUNDOWN:Tom Brady apparently didn’t think an AI-generated comedy special about him was funny at all.

According to the comedians who helped create the viral, hour-long video — which featured an animated version of the NFL legend telling crass jokes in a stand-up format — TB12 threatened legal action over it just days after it was posted … which forced them to wipe it from the internet this week.

Sam Jay Speaks To Her Career As A Creative: “When You’re Writing For The People, You’re Considering Things Outside Of Yourself.”

STAND-UP RUNDOWN:Sam Jay has a brilliant mind, and has created a unique lane for herself in the entertainment industry. After being introduced to comedy at an early age, it wasn’t until the age of 20 that she wanted to pursue comedy as a career path. Since then, she has written for several shows, and has produced an acclaimed stand-up special on Netflix, titled 3 in the Morning.

Growing up in Boston, Jay comes from a long line of comedians, namely the late Patrice O’Neal, whom she has been compared to on occasion. As such a prolific writer, the You People star feels it’s important to maintain a balance when it comes to the things she’s creating. “Standup is just such a ‘you’ thing,” she tells ESSENCE. “It’s writing only for yourself and it’s very personal.”

Standing up for comedy

STAND-UP RUNDOWN:GULF WEEKLY: To nurture the still-fledgling stand-up scene in Bahrain, two of its top comics hope to build on their region-wide debut and see more comedic creatives rise from the kingdom.

Abdulla Nezar, 26, and Ahmed Almatrook, 25, have been featured on OSN’s first season of Stand Up! Ya Arab! – a crowning jewel in each of their repertoires, but they have no intention of just resting on their laurels.

“Every moment in stand-up is crazier than the next,” Abdulla told GulfWeekly.

STAND-UP RUNDOWN:The Gist: The comedian born Louis Székely (his last name shortened to CK for your phonetic comfort) has won six Emmy Awards, three of them for writing his stand-up specials, although all of his Emmys, two of his three Grammy Awards, and all three of his Peabody Awards for his TV shows were awarded before his fall from grace in 2017, when he was exposed for exposing himself to multiple women.

He addressed that a bit in 2020’s Sincerely Louis C.K., which won him his third Grammy. He titled his follow-up, tongue firmly in cheek, Sorry, with the title in giant lit-up all-caps letters behind him onstage. There’s none of that to be found here, unless you want to read between the punchlines.
