Kai Is Effortlessly Funny in His New Comedy Special Kaipocalypse Now

STAND-UP RUNDOWN:The list of one-name wonders—Bono, Cher, Beyoncé, Future, I could go on—has grown one stronger, with comedian Kai joining the ranks as a performer whose talent requires no surname. Of course, if you watch until the end of his new comedy special Kaipocalypse Now you’ll see his last name in the credits, but I’m not going to tell you what it is. You’ll just have to watch his stand-up to find that out. (Also, he posts too much spicy stuff on social media and I’m not a rat.)

Four Stand-Up Specials That Punch Above Their Weight

Setups and punch lines get all the attention, but the stuff in between can be just as important, especially in short jokes where every word counts. Take this one by Jaye McBride: “I love old guys. The older the better.” Pause. “I don’t do online dating. I do carbon dating.” This could work without the second sentence — “The older the better” — but not as well. The reasons have as much to do with rhythm as meaning. It’s the kind of small touch that lets you know McBride, a bespectacled Comedy Cellar regular, has an ear for jokes.

People are sharing their favorite quote from a comedian. Here are 20 of the best.

Reddit user cutecutejames posted a great question on the AskReddit subforum: “What is a quote from a comedian you’ll never forget?” The post quickly went viral, receiving over 10,700 responses on the first day. Of the countless comedians mentioned in the thread, Norm Macdonald appears to be the most quotable.
