Paul Riser is once again performing stand-up, and he’s looking forward to taking the stage in California city not named Los Angeles.

A New York native, Riser said he prefers performing in San Francisco over Los Angeles because the City by the Bay has more of a Big Apple feel.

As much as Riser likes San Fran, it’s been nearly 10 years since he performed there.

The Q&A below touches on his relationship with Eddie Murphy, his first ever stand-up performance, and his noteworthy analysis of changes within comedy audiences.

Today’s Stand-Up spotlight also includes Ralph Barbosa filming his first Netflix special, and news of the death of Australian comedian Bella Green – a former sex worker who turned her working girl experiences into a comedy career.

Her life was proof that funny can be found everywhere.

Paul Reiser is back in San Francisco, ‘a great comedy town, better than L.A.’

STAND-UP RUNDOWN:It’s been almost a decade since Paul Reiser performed stand-up comedy in San Francisco, and he can’t wait to get back.

“San Francisco’s always been a great comedy town, better than L.A.,” Reiser told the Chronicle during a video chat from Los Angeles ahead of a three-show stint at Cobb’s Comedy Club scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Aug. 11-12.

“San Francisco always felt a little bit like New York, just a little bit saner. So it always felt very welcoming to me,” he continued. “And my wife is going to come with me. She doesn’t go to the crappy cities, but she’ll come to San Francisco.”

STAND-UP RUNDOWN:This year is shaping up to the best one ever for comedian Ralph Barbosa, even after George Lopez dissed him.

The Oak Cliff comedian and winner of the 2019 Funniest Comic in Texas kicked off the year with his network debut performance on NBC’s Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. A month later, comedian and TV star George Lopez unwittingly goosed his fame and fandom on Steve Treviño’s OMG Hi! podcast, and now Barbosa is taping his first feature-length comedy special for Netflix.

Sex worker turned stand-up comedian Bella Green has tragically died aged 38.

The heartbreaking news of her passing was shared by pals who described her as a ‘deeply cherished friend’ in a hilarious tribute to the late star.

In a Go Fund Me page set up to help with funeral costs, the sex worker’s mates joked that many of her clients will miss her services in the brutally honest obituary.

They described her as a ‘writer, comedian, massive hooker, public toilet aficionado and deeply cherished friend’ who ‘leaves behind a large community of grievers’.
