DELRAY BEACH – San Franciscans get a little touchy when it’s mentioned that some city streets look like they belong in third world countries.

Comedian Dave Chappelle is among the most recent to experience resident’s ire.

“What the f—k happened to this place?” Chappelle asked during a recent performance in the city, according to SFGATE’s review of the show.

Chappelle apparently noticed that homelessness is a problem within the city. It’s an easy observation to make – especially when you have to watch a person defecate in front of Chappelle’s choice of restaurant.

Yet some in San Fran found Chappelle’s stance problematic. The massive amount of homeless living on the streets in San Francisco isn’t the problem. Chappelle mentioning it, that’s the problem. A link to the review appears below.

Is it any wonder people are fleeing California for Florida and Texas?

The Stand-Up Spotlight also starts the week with an apparent peculiar decision by Doritos to have a chip-faced spokes comedian be their mental health messenger, and a story about how comedian Jimmy Rees still feels like an imposter on stage.

STAND-UP SPOTLIGHT – May 15, 2023

‘What the f—k happened to this place?’: Dave Chappelle rails on San Francisco at surprise show

STAND-UP RUNDOWN:A half-hour into the Dave Chappelle show Thursday night at the Masonic, the crowd started yelling. They yelled that they loved him. They yelled to ask him to repeat lines from his old Comedy Central show. They yelled because they wanted to know what he thought of the homeless person who got sprayed with a hose in San Francisco earlier this year.

To his credit, Chappelle didn’t yell back. Instead, he engaged with the audience, part of his decadeslong dialogue with a city that he referred to during the show as his second home. He described playing hundreds of shows here earlier in his career — “using the city like a goddamn ATM” whenever he needed a paycheck.

Multinational brand Doritos has decided to get on board to amplify ReachOut’s message. Unfortunately, help has arrived in the form of Chippy, a Dorito-faced stand-up comic who looks like a wisecracking nightmare.

Jimmy Rees on keeping it clean, impostor syndrome and why he’s up for more Giggle & Hoot

STAND-UP RUNDOWN:Despite playing to packed houses, and having to extend his last national tour from five shows to a whopping 39 shows, Jimmy Rees says that he still feels like an impostor in the stand-up comedy world.

His recent stint on Channel 10’s Taskmaster alongside stand-up veterans including Julia Morris, Luke McGregor, Nina Oyama and Danielle Walker, made Rees realise how unusual his journey to standing behind a microphone in front of a room full of strangers was, and also how much he had to learn.
