DELRAY BEACH – Test scores indicate that teachers may not be doing such a great job educating our children. They may, however, be entertaining them.

A surprisingly large number of stand-up comedians have a teaching background. Why is that? Maybe it’s because they are accustomed to public speaking. Maybe it’s because schools are breeding grounds for wacky behavior. Or, perhaps it’s simply a way to supplement their teacher’s salary.

Whatever the reason, it’s a trend that seems to be picking up steam.

Today’s Stand-Up Spotlight leads with a feature on Gaspare Randazzo, a New York comedian who doubles as a school teacher. There’s also now a date for the release of Mark Normand’s upcoming Netflix special (July 25), and a piece out of England about what advertisers can learn from stand-up comedy.

Get the funny rolling.

Since he was a kid, Normand knew he was interested in comedy. But once his mother doled out VHS tapes of the Marx Brothers, it became an integral part of his life. After watching it, he soon discovered comedians, films, shows and specials from the past, all due to his mother’s suggestion.

What ad land can learn from stand up comedy

Earlier this year Truant London’s Associate Creative Director duo Charlie Lindsay and George Bartlett took a stand up comedy course and, here, impart the lessons they learned (including not telling risqué jokes at a family dinner), and how they can be applied to their day job.

“I don’t know what to identify as anymore”. That was the opening line of the stand up comedy set that myself and my creative partner, George, did.
