With the diversification of brick-and-mortar comedy clubs and the rise of social media platforms, the playing field for comedic talent has been leveled. However, it is important to note that viral success online does not guarantee a spot on a comedy club’s mainstage.

Erin von Schonfeldt, the executive VP of programming for Improv Comedy Club owners Levity Live, has been booking shows for their network of clubs since 1997. According to her, while some comedians may find initial success through viral online clips, there is no substitute for performing in front of live audiences night after night in multiple cities to build a solid foundation.

Dave Chappelle announces fall dates for his stand-up comedy tour

STAND-UP RUNDOWN:Dave Chappelle will hit the road this fall in a stand-up comedy tour called Dave Chappelle Live, announced exclusively July 25 on TODAY.

The tour opens with a pair of dates at New York City’s Madison Square Garden and wraps up at Chicago’s United Center.

STAND-UP RUNDOWN:Ron Sexton, a comedian best known as the voice of Donnie Baker on the long-running syndicated radio series The Bob & Tom Show, died Friday in Ohio while on tour with his stand-up comedy show, according to posts from his family and the show’s stars. He was 52.

The Bob & Tom Show is a syndicated radio program established by Bob Kevoian and Tom Griswold at WFBQ in Indianapolis in 1983, which has been syndicated nationally for decades and focuses on comedy and talk, describing itself as “a mash-up of news, sports, conversation and interviews.”
