A group of teachers in Portland are starting their own comedy shows, drawing inspiration for their jokes straight from the classroom.

Schools have long been a fertile ground for comedy.

Before his untimely death, material that drew heavily from decades spent teaching South Florida children propelled Chris Priester to among the area’s elite comedians.

Portland teacher Don Gavitte had a similar experience. He’s now creating comedy shows where all the comedians are teachers. They’ll be shows everyone can relate to.

Here’s hoping one of the teachers pulls out the overhead projector.

STAND-UP RUNDOWN:Don Gavitte’s comedy career started at his father’s funeral.

It was 2018. Gavitte was supposed to deliver the eulogy of a man he said had “spent most of his life crawling into engines.” His father had worked at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York until he was 77. He died when he was 80.

Netflix’s upcoming documentary, Headliners Only, will follow Kevin Hart and Chris Rock as they perform four sold-out shows. The Madison Square Garden shows will serve as framing for a documentary about their early lives, strife, and eventual rise to success.

Netflix has announced that the joint Kevin Hart-Chris Rock comedy documentary will premiere towards the end of this year on Dec. 12, 2023. The streaming giant released the first trailer, featuring the two star comedians discussing the documentary, which follows the duo’s four performances in Madison Square Garden at the end of their Rock Hart: Only Headliners Allowed tour. The documentary is directed by Rashidi Harper, and produced by Hart, Rock, Bryan Smiley, Malcolm Spellman, Oby M. Okoye – the two comedians are producing through their respective companies, Hartbeat and CR Enterprises.
