DELRAY BEACH – Stand-up comedian Tig Notaro bombed so badly on “Wheel of Fortune” that she’s having to explain it on late night television.

Facing a puzzle that read “crashing my _x_rcis_ bi_ _”, Notaro guessed “Crashing my exorcist bill?”

Needless to say, that was incorrect – and potentially the funniest line the comic has ever uttered.

Applause Break was already planning to link to a feature on Notaro. Now there are two stories in the Stand-Up Spotlight. The first is about her appearance on “The Tonight Show” where she explained the Wheel gaff. The second is the aforementioned profile of Notaro.

Also in the Spotlight is a story about young Florida comic Dorian Gayle and another about comedian Ralph Barbosa.

Get ready for a funny weekend.

STAND-UP SPOTLIGHT – Feb. 24, 2023

Tig Notaro explains her embarrassing ‘Celebrity Wheel of Fortune’ response: ‘I was just wrong’

STAND-UP RUNDOWN:Tig Notaro definitely had the “crashing” part right when she hilariously flubbed the answer to a puzzle on “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune” recently.

The comedian spoke to Jimmy Fallon on “The Tonight Show” on Feb. 8 about her attempt to solve a puzzle in which “crashing my _x_rcis_ bi_ _” was showing on the screen.

Comedian Tig Notaro preps her next stand-up special while making fun of herself

STAND-UP RUNDOWN:In previewing stand-up comedian Tig Notaro’s live showcase at Punch Line Comedy Club for Philadelphia Weekly, I wrote that I wasn’t always attracted to the lithe comic’s style in the past, something cold, folksy and fireside chat-conversational that often lacked in its laughable payoff. Now, I don’t ever a punchline to hit me over the head, but a humorous denouement, one that doesn’t drift into the ether… give me something. That said, I always appreciated Notaro’s dark demeanor and her dry, wry set of jokes focused on her being diagnosed with cancer in both breasts in 2012.

Palm Bay comedian Dorian Gayle now a TikTok up-and-comer: ‘I’m overwhelmed with joy’

STAND-UP RUNDOWN:Dorian Gayle is focused — and, his fans say, seriously funny.

Since the age of 17, the homegrown entertainer from Palm Bay has dreamed of becoming the “Next Big Thing” in stand-up. He’s hit comedy club stages and venues across the nation, carefully building a following and developing his comedic repertoire and timing, including spot-on impressions of comedic giants Bernie Mac and Chris Tucker, on social media.

Maybe some people don’t know who Ralph Barbosa is, but the comedy world is about to learn

STAND-UP RUNDOWN:Ralph Barbosa may not be a household name in stand-up comedy just yet. But in the last week or so, one thing has become clear: People are starting to know who the f— he is. For the Dallas-based comic, years on the grind are starting to pay off as he breaks into the national touring circuit and makes a return to L.A. this week for a string of sold-out shows at the Improv. Before that, he was in a suit telling jokes on “The Tonight Show” with Jimmy Fallon, and late last year he made his HBO comedy debut in the third installment of Latin stand-up series Entre Nos. Before that, his Don’t Tell Comedy Set garnered millions of views on YouTube. As a young comic starting out, he was the 2019 winner of the Funniest comic in Texas competition, in 2021 he went on to win the New York Latino Film Festival Stand Up competition.
