DELRAY BEACH – Hearing even the most veteran comedian say that taking the stage still scares them isn’t uncommon.

Overcoming that fear often drives people to try stand-up comedy in the first place.

Joe Pasquale is a little different. The comedian admit that performing stand-up comedy some 40 years into his career still scares him. But he likes being scared. Perhaps that is explained by Pasquale also being an accomplished horror writer.

Joe Pasquale admits stand-up comedy scares him even after 40 years

STAND-UP RUNDOWN:Comedian and horror author Joe Pasquale has said performing a stand-up routine in front of an expecting audience terrifies him, but he does it because “I like being scared”.

The 61-year-old is kicking off his comedy tour The New Normal – 40 Years Of Cack on July 28 after four decades performing stand-up, weeks after his third collection of horror stories is set to be published.

Of Mice And Wolfmen, a collection of a dozen horror tales, follows on from his first two horror books Deadknobs And Doomsticks volume one and two, and will be published on June 16.

STAND-UP RUNDOWN:Malaysia will ask Interpol for help tracking down a stand-up comedian who joked about the country and the missing Malaysia Airlines flight during a set at a popular Manhattan club in April.

Jocelyn Chia, a Boston-born comic with dual citizenship in Singapore, sparked outrage and even protests after posting a video of her Comedy Cellar stand-up performance where she joked about the historical tensions between Malaysia and Singapore.

Jocelyn Chia: US comedian calls Malaysia’s reaction to MH370 joke ‘ridiculous’

STAND-UP RUNDOWN:A US comedian who offended Malaysian authorities with a joke about missing flight MH370 says the reaction from officials has been “overblown”.

Jocelyn Chia told the BBC she was “not making fun of tragedy” and victims, but was trying to find humour in tragedy.

Ms Chia – who grew up in Singapore – called involving Interpol “ridiculous”.

Theater where stand-up comedian insulted PLA fined over $13,900

STAND-UP RUNDOWN:The China-Japan Youth Exchange Center Century Theater, where a stand-up comedian made insulting remarks about the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), was fined 100,000 yuan ($13,942) by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism recently, according to data from database query platform Tianyancha.com.

The theater did not take measures to stop the performance and they didn’t report it to the relevant authorities, according to the platform.
