BOCA RATON – Another day meant another video for Flip Schultz.

Entering 2021, Schultz set a goal of posting one piece of performance video each day for the entire year.

“It didn’t really seem unrealistic, it just seemed like, God, that’s a lot of material. Am I really going to be able to find that much in old clips?” Schultz said. “It made me revisit a lot of bits that I hadn’t even seen for a while. It was a very nice feeling of completion.”

For the most part, Schultz met the goal he set.

There were a couple days when traveling that Schultz lacked the necessary internet access to make his posts.

“I waited until I had WiFi, but then I uploaded two or three clips to make up for it,” Schultz said.

A performing comic for more than 20 years – and a borderline obsessive recorder of each set – Schultz chose from a deep library of clips. Some posts were straight forward bits. Many included crowd work, showcasing Schultz’s quick mind.

“It was more about, can I do it?” Schultz said. “It was a goal that I set for myself. It was something that kept me creative, too – especially at the beginning of last year when I started doing this. I was creatively bereft. There wasn’t a lot of stage time to get and I was still dealing with the move from LA. [to Florida]. So this, for me, was a great distraction. It was a creative outlet.”

The project also proved to be a good marketing idea.

Schultz posted the video clips to his newly created Tik Tok account, along with Facebook and Instagram.

At the start of 2021 Schultz boasted a meager 50 followers on Tik Tok. That number is now in the neighborhood of 90,000.

“My Tik Tok really blew up,” Schultz said.

Reviewing old clips also benefited Schultz later in 2021 when he returned to performing on cruise ships.

“A very nice byproduct, too, is that when I went back on the ships I looked at so many of my old ship sets, I didn’t miss a beat doing ship material,” Schultz said.

Schultz spent much of the end of 2021 and the beginning 2022 performing on cruise ships. He’ll head back to the open waters on Feb. 12 for a brief performance. A few days later he’ll begin a month-long booking at an all-inclusive resort on St. Maarten.

He’ll also continue posting clips on his social media accounts.

“Now that it’s a new year, I’m still posting, but not every day,” Schultz said.
