A Drink and A Smile

The Applause Planner says grab some Hennessy Williams to help celebrate the upcoming Independence Day weekend.

DELRAY BEACH – Do Independence Day weekend and Hennessy mix?

They do for South Florida comedy fans.

Hennessy Williams is one of South Florida’s most recognizable comics. Williams stood near the top of the Sunshine State comedy game prior to the COVID pandemic. In recent months Williams is making an effort to reclaim that stature.

On Saturday, that means a trip to Fort Lauderdale for a show at the quirky Zen Mystery produced by Fasil Malik. For those unfamiliar with Malik shows, they tend to be held in smaller, more relaxed venues and offer some of Florida’s most notable comics. At the moment, no South Florida comedy producer is creating more shows than Fasil Malik.

Perry Sak, another Applause Planner favorite, is another of the night’s performers. Jim Moran and Brett Engle are also scheduled to take the stage, with Malik himself serving as host. Tickets for the 8 p.m. show are $10 in advance, $15 at the door.

So have a Hennessy and watch some fireworks. Sounds like a pretty good weekend.

Nathan Wallace – Turtle Tavern, Delray Beach
A resident of Southwest Florida, Wallace doesn’t perform on this side of the peninsula all that often. When he does it’s worth a look. The Turtle Tavern offers a blue collar comedy audience, which should be a wonderful foil for Wallace’s every man humor. Local favorite Nadeem Awad is the feature comic. Jim Fredrick is also scheduled to perform, with David Sadman serving as host. Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. show are $5.

Laughs & Crafts – Brass Tap, Pembroke Pines
Headliner Ridiculous Nick (Nick Souffrant) is a social media sensation who recorded his first comedy special on Sunday at the Dania Improv. Elgin David, Carly Dagit and Jay Moreno are also scheduled to perform, with show producer Nileja serving as host. The Brass Tap offers something for everyone – 72 drafts on tap, $10 boneless wings and a pint, and select whiskey specials. The free show begins at 8:30 p.m.

Lisa Corrao – Biergarten, Boca Raton
Corrao headlines a rare third show of the month at Boca Raton’s Biergarten. A former middle school teacher, Corrao has opened for the likes of Patton Oswald and Kevin Nealon. Awad is also scheduled to perform, as is David Aguilar. Show producer David Sadman serves as host. The free show begins at 8 p.m.
