Killer Lineup

Plenty of great shows to choose from this week, but it's the much anticipated opening of the Sadman Comedy Speakeasy Lounge that highlights this week's Applause Planner.

BOCA RATON – The final week of February is shaping up to be one of South Florida’s best comedic seven days of the year.

The Tin Roof has its monthly show tonight, there are two highlight-worthy shows on Thursday and the Palm Beach Improv offers a couple national comics to round out the week.

But the show Applause Break is most excited to see happens on Wednesday in Boca Raton.

David Sadman of Sadman Comedy Productions will see his vision for an upscale comedy venue come to fruition with the opening of the Sadman Comedy Speakeasy Lounge on Wednesday.

Located above Arturo’s Ristorante on Federal Highway in Boca Raton, Sadman assembled an amazing list of performers for the club’s debut, headlined by Jimmy Shubert.

Veteran comic Bruce Smirnoff is coming out of retirement to perform, as is the “Godfather of Boston Comedy” Don Gavin. New York legend Richie Minervini will also perform a set.

Nadeem Awad and Chad Ridgely are also scheduled to step up to the mic, and Sadman will host.

“We expect nothing less than a tremendous show that is going to be a blockbuster,” Sadman said.

With a lineup like this, it’s not surprising the show is already sold out. Sadman’s goal is to eventually produce a weekly show at the Sadman Comedy Speakeasy Lounge.

Applause Planner – Plan on It

Matt Bellak – Monday, Feb. 22, Tin Roof
The monthly shows at Tin Roof on Atlantic Ave. in Delray Beach have quickly grown into must attend events. There’s no reason to expect this one to be any different. New York comic James Comacho is the show’s feature and former LA comic Chad Ridgely will also perform, with Danny Fineman hosting. What a great way to start a week.

Jimmy Shubert – Thursday, Feb. 25, The Butcher Shop
Shubert’s going back-to-back in South Florida this week. One day after his performance at the Sadman Speakeasy, he’ll head north to West Palm Beach for this show. Corey Cognac hosts this show which also has Jackie Sanchez and Stephanie Wood scheduled to perform.

Irish You Were Here – Thursday, Feb. 25, Kelly Brothers Irish Pub
Comedy fans who live closer to Fort Lauderdale may want to save themselves a drive and hit this show hosted by Fasil Malik. Well known local comics Chris Flanagan, Dan Long, Minda, Lalo Rodriguez and Nik Macik are among those scheduled to perform.

Jared Freid – Thursday, Feb. 25, Palm Beach Improv
Based in New York, Freid is one of the fastest risers on the national stand-up comedy scene. He’ll only be in town for one night, and tickets are $20. Applause Break local favorite Jay Guy is the feature comic for this show, which makes the night even better.

John Crist – Friday, Feb. 26 – Feb. 27, Palm Beach Improv
Like Freid, Crist is also among the nation’s fastest rising comics. He’s perhaps best known for viral videos “Honest Football Coach” and “Every Parent at Disney.” Crist is performing two shows on Friday and two more on Saturday.
