BOCA RATON – Local favorite Carl Rimi returns to the Biergarten in Boca Raton, creating an easy choice as this week’s Applause Planner Pick of the Week.

Rimi is headlining a lineup that features fellow locals Nadeem Awad and John Loveless. The Thursday show, which begins at 8 p.m., is yet another produced by David Sadman, who will serve as the show’s host.

“Carl Rimi is one of my favorites,” said Sadman, the show’s producer. “His energy is unlike any other comic here in South Florida. He electrifies the entire room when he gets in to his rhythm. I’ve seen him perform probably more than any other headliner in the area and I always stop and watch his set – and I still laugh at the same jokes I’ve seen done repeatedly. The man has a gift.”

It’s been a while since Rimi’s last Biergarten show in August.

While the COVID-19 conditions have improved since then, there’s still plenty of material to be mined – and Rimi has demonstrated a capability to find humor anywhere.

In true comic fashion, Rimi promises “a lot of making fun of COVID and masks.”

Awad and Sadman are regular at the Biergarten, but Loveless will be making his first appearance.

“He’s young and has a unique intelligence about his comedy,” Sadman said. “His style is subtle. He’s a thinking man’s comic.”

Special guest Warren Scott is a welcomed late addition to the lineup.

Good times and good shows have become the norm at Biergarten.

Applause Planner – Plan On It

Sunshine State Comedy – Wednesday, March 3, The Dubliner
Gina Savage and Johnny Azari bring Sunshine State Comedy back to Boca Raton for the second show at the Dubliner. The first show entertained, and many of the same performers are back. Flip Schultz will headline, and Zach McGovern, and Azari will all perform. Veteran Richie Leis is a new addition. The free show begins at 8 p.m. Should be another great night of laughs.

MurphChuck Comedy Show – Friday, March 5, Pompano Beach Brewing Company
Bangin’ Banjo Brewery is now the Pompano Beach Brewing Company, so don’t get thrown by the location. The comedy hasn’t changed. Friday’s lineup includes Phil Isme, Chris Renois, Leetah Faye and Sean Mullins. The free event begins at 8 p.m. and is hosted by Charly Esturilho.

Anna Lepeley – Sunday, March 7, Monroe’s Red Light
Lepeley makes her home in the Jacksonville area, but has performed in South Florida frequently over the years. A published author, Lepeley hasn’t spent much time down here since the pandemic’s onset. Applause Break is glad she’s decided to return. Anthony Terzo is scheduled to feature, with Mark Christopher, Jarret Swaby and Jim Patterson also on the bill. Host Bobby Mac always produces a professional show.

Alonzo Bodden – Thursday, March 4 – Saturday, March 6, Palm Beach Improv
A veteran comic with more than two decades of creating laughter, Bodden highlights a relatively light week at the Improv. He’s a regular panelist on NPR’s Wait Wait … Don’t Tell Me. In 2019 Bodden starred in his fourth comedy special, Heavy Lightweight.
