DELRAY BEACH – The calendar flipping to June brings a bit of a slowdown to the South Florida comedy scene.
The snowbirds have migrated north. Heat and storms render the prospect of outdoor shows dicey.
But even in the slower times, there are still some excellent sources for laughter.
This week’s top show is once again brought to South Florida comedy fans by Fasil Malik.
The headliner, local favorite Carl Rimi, has been a busy man. Over the past couple years he’s written, produced and acted in the movie iPossessed. That hasn’t left much time for comedy, but he does still perform.
On Friday Rimi will be at Creole Garden in Tamarac. Then his focus returns to iPossessed. He has two screenings planned for middle of June in Delray Beach, as Rimi and his crew put the finishing touches on the film.
Oriel Rodriguez is the feature comic for this show. Cindy-Ann Boisson serves as host.
The Creole Garden isn’t a big place, which makes for an intimate show. And the food there has received rave reviews. Comedy fans planning on enjoying a Creole feast are encouraged to arrive around 7 p.m. to place their orders. This will minimize disruptions to the show.
Tickets for the 8 p.m. show are $15 online, $20 at the door.

FRIDAY, JUNE 10 – SUNDAY, JUNE 12
Lavell Crawford – Dania Improv, Dania Beach
Crawford’s website bills him as someone who is “quickly climbing the comedy ranks.” He may be selling himself short. Since his 2005 appearance on “Last Comic Standing,” Crawford’s appeared in about a dozen TV shows and has recorded multiple stand-up comedy specials. His recurring role on “Breaking Bad,” flowed into “Better Call Saul.” Crawford is performing five times over three days this weekend. Tickets are $30, with VIP seating available for $40 (VIP for some shows is already sold out).
