DELRAY BEACH – In and of itself, Crystal Meth isn’t naturally funny.

That doesn’t stop South Florida’s comics from having a little fun with the topic.

In 2006 President George W. Bush signed a proclamation declaring November 30 National Meth Awareness Day. If you weren’t already aware, now you are.

Meth Awareness Day aims to reach potential users and prevent them from trying the extremely addictive drug. The day also increases awareness of programs and services available to current users.

Comics Vital Dieujuste, Steve Miller, Greg Hahn, Matt Durndak, Seetha, Jay Guy, Tim Hanlon and Steve Lamm give their slightly biting thoughts on methamphetamines and Crystal Meth addiction in the above video.

While the video does poke fun at the concept of having a methamphetamine awareness day, the comics and Applause Break to realize that addiction to crystal meth can ruin lives. If you, or anyone you know, is struggling with meth addiction, you are encouraged to visit the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s website for tips on recognizing drug addiction and contacts for help.

Today is the day to get involved.

Addicts crave methamphetamines because along with the dopamine hit they increase alertness, increase physical activity, and can reduce – or even eliminate appetite. Meth users also experience short term rapid heart rate and increased blood pressure.

The long term effects of meth use include addiction, extreme weight loss, tooth loss, gum disease, sleeping disorders, memory loss, hallucinations and paranoia.

When discussing Meth Awareness on social media use the hashtag #MethAwarenessDay.
