DELRAY BEACH – Looking for the right words to describe today? Well, today’s the day for it.

January 18, 2022 is National Thesaurus Day. South Florida comics aren’t exactly sure what to make of this day. Still, Franco Harris, Chris Flanagan, Dougie Almeida, Lukas Jason, Chad Ridgely, and Connie Fernandez find a way to make National Thesaurus Day, what? Funny? Humorous? Amusing? Hilarious? Jolly? Silly? Entertaining? The above video is all that and more.

Why is Jan. 18 National Thesaurus Day? On this day in 1779, Peter Mark Roget, author of Roget’s Thesaurus, was born. Roget first published his thesaurus in 1852.

To observe National Thesaurus Day, why not crack open a thesaurus and add to your vocabulary? Or head to one of the many online thesaurus sites. Maybe play some word games. Or complete a crossword puzzle. Today’s the day for wordplay.

In addition to National Thesaurus Day, Jan. 18 is also National Michigan Day, National Peking Duck Day and National Winnie The Pooh Day. In retrospect maybe we should have paid tribute to Winnie The Pooh Day, but hey, there’s always next year.
